The MXR M81 is a Bass preamp pedal that has a studio quality direct out in one small package. The M81 features a separate input and output level controls and a 3 band EQ section with a sweepable midrange from 250hz to 1kHz for maximum tonal flexibility. It’s all delivered super clean with high headroom thanks to MXR's own Constant Headroom Technology™, and you can use the PRE/POST EQ switch to set whether or not your Direct Out signal is affected by the Bass Preamp’s EQ section.

    MXR M81

    Great Bass pre-amp! I play a Alembic 5 fretted and fret-less basses and put my M81 on my music stand. I can switch basses and EQ's at ease! I don't have to bend over! I also send the direct out which the soundman says is pretty clean! love it!

    Solid EQ & DI Pedal for Bass

    This is a great preamp pedal for bass. Solidly constructed, and packed full of features. The 3 band eq with sweepable mid frequency offers plenty of tweaks to my sound, and I can make any volume adjustments needed. It also lets me use the line out for my in-ear monitor mix while simultaneously sending the xlr out straight to the board. This pedal stays on my board, always on, and if I wasn't able to bring my pedalboard with me, this pedal would still end up coming along. (Used with my Warwick RockBass 5-String with Passive pickups.)

    Transparent boost and EQ

    True to the many reviews I read online before purchasing, this preamp is very transparent, providing boost and EQ without adding its own color/flavor to the sound. Great for matching a passive instrument's output to that of an active one when switching between. So if boost and a bit of EQ are what you're looking for this may be the pedal for you. If on the other hand you're seeking a massive tonal change beyond boosting what's already there this one will probably leave you wanting.

    MXR M81. The sound I was searching for.

    I used a 10 band EQ to shape my tone but it was always just not close enough. The MXR M81 got me to where I want to be. Also having a good D.I. and clean preamp in the size of a standard pedal is indespensible...
