This four pack from the folks at Turner Classic Movies caters to fans of screen legend Burt Lancaster (1913-94), with a quartet of the actor's most popular and critically acclaimed movies. First up is the 1983 LOCAL HERO, a whimsical comedy by director Bill Forsyth with Lancaster as a Texas oil magnate captivated by the charms of a Scotch fishing village. Next on the bill is John Frankenheimer's 1964 SEVEN DAYS IN MAY, with Lancaster as a paranoid general who attempts a takeover of the U.S. government. The 1973 EXECUTIVE ACTION dramatizes a scenario inspired by the murder of John F. Kennedy, with Lancaster, Robert Ryan and Will Geer as right-wing conspirators who arrange a presidential assassination. Finally, 1950's THE FLAME AND THE ARROW (by Jacques Tourneur stars Lancaster as the rebel leader of a medieval Italian village.

    Local hero is a surprising turn of events that works out well for everybody… The flame and the arrow is a typical " Robin Hood" adventure except you must know that Bert Lancaster is an incredible athlete and acrobat as shown in this movie. Executive action is a scary movie about how the military could take over the United States with enough cooperation from others at higher echelons. Seven days in May it's another frightening drama about military takeover of the United States. An incredible value! Great acting from all…

    Disappointed by Standard Definition

    Didn't realize there would be FoUR dvds. Was expecting only "Local Hero", but I'll try the other three too. However, I wish that the offering had stated that the DVD is standard definition. It's hard to enjoy standard def after getting used to high def. That said, "Local Hero" (which I had seen in 1983 - in standard def) is a delight.
