Synopsis
When The Stories of John Cheever was originally published, it became an immediate national bestseller and won the Pulitzer Prize. In the years since, it has become a classic. Vintage Books is proud to reintroduce this magnificent collection. Here are sixty-one stories that chronicle the lives of what has been called "the greatest generation." From the early wonder and disillusionment of city life in "The Enormous Radio" to the surprising discoveries and common mysteries of suburbia in "The Housebreaker of Shady Hill" and "The Swimmer," Cheever tells us everything we need to know about "the pain and sweetness of life." From the Trade Paperback edition.

According to USPS, the item was never shipped. I have messaged the seller three times asking for updates and finally for a cancellation so that I might purchase the bag from another seller. It was intended as a Christmas gift which the seller knew. Seller never responded. She prevented my granddaughter from receiving the gift which she requested because she recently lost her little dog. • Belongs on every bookshelf. Cheever is a superb writer of short fiction.

I bought this book for a very good price, so I knew it wouldn't be pristine. Indeed, it has evidence of being stored in a slightly damp environment or perhaps left in the sun, but the book is intact, the pages clean and readable, so I got my money's worth. All in all, a good value. Thanks.

  • Winter Reading...

I could have bought this newer, but I really love old books and this one from 1978 was in pretty good shape. Couldn't beat the price and although it took a little longer to arrive it wasn't a hardship... :)

  • You should’ve read this by now....

......as good a short story writer as Capote, and his prose is like Salter.
