Seven gunmen fight to save a group of kidnapped farmers in the RETURN OF THE SEVEN (1966). In GUNS OF THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN (1969) seven mercenaries ride out to rescue a modern Robin Hood. The MAGNIFICENT SEVEN RIDE (1972) has seven convicts hired by a Marshall desperate to save his town from harm.

    A classic, the sequel and two other films

    The Magnificent Seven (1960) is one of the classic Western films from when I was a child. It was the first Western I saw in a cinema, on a short re-release around 1972. It was great to see again, in remastered detail and colour. The first sequel, The Return of the Magnificent Seven, with only Yul Brynner reprising his lead role, is an acceptable follow-up, with a connected storyline, but not quite as good as the original. The other two films in this set, are also sequels to the original, Guns of the Magnificent Seven and The Magnificent Seven Ride! Unfortunately, they are nothing like the quality of either of the first two films. As a fan of the spaghetti westerns of Sergio Leone, which owe a lot to the original Magnificent Seven film in terms of style, I would say the last two ...
