  • Iconic Series

The Beiderbeck Trilogy is a 1980s TV series that has to be one of the most humorous and endearing series of all time. Featuring a lovable couple of northern school teachers at a run down Leeds comprehensive who get caught up in various unexpected adventures and are under constant suspicion by the police. The other characters such as Big Al, Little Norm, the grave digger, the man and his dog, and the Headmaster are all caricatures of people we all know in real life, but slightly exaggerated. The 'one liners' scattered throughout the script are so funny, it can be difficult not to keep chuckling all the way through (though most of the time absolutely nothing is happening!).

  • "A lovely way to spend an evening", or two.

Begin with a wonderful script writer working out gentle, amusing and quirky story lines. Take two lead actors who were born for their parts. Add in all the other characters, each with their own foibles, humanity. Sit back and watch them all as they navigate their ways through life, to the best of their abilities, and enjoy their company. Was satire ever so genial and forgiving? Oh, and the soundtrack and music references are so right for the programme.

  • Well worth. Watching

I watch this series back in the 80s and enjoyed it so much and had fond memories. I was expecting a scratchy copy but have been pleasantly surprised. OK, the quality isn't up to modern standards but it is very watchable. Only the speech quality let's it down a bit, or perhaps it's my ears which have deteriorated. Anyway no worse than many modern plays which are full of mumbled dialogue.

  • Still enjoyable if slightly dated

I watched this series when it first came out and loved it. I have to say that it has dated. The plot seems slow and the humour not as quirky as it did at the time, but it’s still good fun.

  • Amusing nostalgia

I had watched the series originally on TV but had forgotten the actual 'plots' but was surprised to find even though in a different time line they could easily be adapted to present day with believable characters and stories
