I have put this mic on so many different things and always found it to sound great. When a condenser mic might pick up too much ambience try this. Grand piano, any part of drum kit inc overhead, brass, cello woodwind and guitar or bass amps are all great uses. Only downside is the annoying and expensive clip.
You won't get the crisp clear highs through this thing (like modern day condensers) but the mid range and bass response is open, warm and very accurate to the source. Feels like I'm taking tracks off tape with this microphone. So far I have tested it on Kick drum, acoustic guitar, guitar amps and vocals. It definitely sounds great on all of these and produces a lovely usable sound! Extremely versatile microphone.
Things to keep in mind:
- For quiet sources you need a pretty powerful preamp
- Does have a noise floor (every so slightly noticeable but not overpowering in anyway)
