    About this product

    Product Information

East Coast Joint Stock comprised the specially-built passenger carriages operated by the various railway companies running trains between London and Edinburgh, from the mid-19th century until the Grouping of 1923. All types of vehicles were constructed, from 3rd class compartment coaches to a pair of Royal saloons, both of which are now preserved in the National Collection, with one at York and the other at Bressingham, Norfolk. All were finished in a distinctive and attractive livery of varnished teak with gold lettering. This book is a complete history of these vehicles and includes photographs and scale drawings of every type, together with details of each individual coach supplied for these services, making this a reference for the railway enthusiast and modeller. Timetables and period advertisements and many sundry facts and figures provide additional interest, including details of the various accidents involving this stock - statistically the East Coast Route was the most dangerous to travel during the last 30 years of the 19th century, with no less than 27 collisions and derailments being reported between 1872 and 1916.
