SynopsisJosephine Baker, the Jazz Age, African-American performers in 1920s Paris - all were captured in Le Tumulte Noir, Paul Colin's limited-edition portfolio of 45 lithographs. First published in 1927, Colin's work evokes the uproar that black Americans created in music and dance in Paris after World War I. This work reproduces, in large colourplates, all of the lithographs, as well as the original preface by Rip (satirist George Thenon) and Josephine Baker's own hand-written commentary.

  • Stylized Josephine Baker

This book of highly stylized lithographs is a beauty. Although the exaggerated features are upsetting--this book is still a valuable contribution to the history of one of the nation's most talented, generous, patriot who remained fearless in fighting discrimination, racism and fascism as noted in her spy contributions to dispel the nazis from Europe. This text is well done, the lithographs are colorful and the condition of the text I received is top- notch. Thank you for this excellent contribution to the Josephine Baker pantheon.
