    he best version of this classic story

    a delightful film of Arthur Ransome's classic tale of children sailing in the Lake District. the film sticks very closely to the original story, and the Lakeland scenery is breathtakingly beautiful. Virginia McKenna is excellent as the mother who isn't bothered by her children going off to camp on an island miles away in the middle of a deep lake. Wish I had her sang froid. a lovely summery story, great to watch at any time of the year.

    Classic Arthur Ransome

    This is the definitive film of Swallows and Amazons. If you love the book this film is completely true to it although inevitably the film leaves out some moments like the storm. The children acted beautifully and are totally convincing. And they can all sail!
