The author reveals the dilemmas and conflicting priorities existing to the highest levels, setting out in detail the technicalities of developing the 'bouncing bomb'. He also writes first hand about the tactical problems of getting to and from the target; and the tensions and strains endured by the Mosquito crews themselves, as they took the war to the German U-Boats within the sight and safety of their bases.
This is the story of the other dam buster squadron, the one that failed. I found the book well written with some inaccuracies, but overall well researched. The story is about the other Dam Buster squadron, formed at the same time as the more successful 617 under Guy Gibson who breached the dams and cripple the Nazis. The initial idea as a double strike, the Dams and the Tirpitz in one night. However, it did not occur and the story follows the development of the squadron up till 1945 and many of the facts where used in the 633 Squadron and in the film Mosquito Squadron. Overall a good book well worth reading which shows the inter service rivalry and the failures.
