    Sumptuous visuals

    It's starting to seem like the viewers that go into a Guillermo del Toro movie expecting his usual shenanigans are thoroughly entertained by them, whereas the casual moviegoer who wants to see the picture that seems to be promised by television trailers have a low opinion of them. I am a big fan of his work, myself, and CRIMSON PEAK doesn't disappoint - the production design is so lush and gorgeous you can all but taste it, and the lead actors (Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, and Charlie Hunnam) were selected for maximum physical beauty and a certain weird, uncanny talent for telling weird, uncanny stories. More a love letter to the golden age of Hammer horror and the blood-soaked, sensual madness of Mario Bava's 1960s cinema output than a modern picture, the scares and ...

    Good acting, but distractable scene anomilies and violence ruin the experience of watching.

    Mia Wasikowska's performance was superb as always. Unless one likes seeing Mia perform and she has a major part, would not recommend watching this motion picture. The movie starts out good, but anomalies in some scenes and the violent ending detracted from the overall story. The killing of the father was not believable, especially when you find out who did it. The scenes at the mansion were totally unrealistic. There is an open roof, it is very cold outside, the only means of heat are fire places and Mia's character not only takes a bath in a room with no heat source, but 90% of the time is dressed as if the mansion had a modern heating system. Bad scene setting at the end and poor directing.
