  • Moving, well worth and depicts the era and people very well!

Lucy is not happy with her life. Her relationship with her sister is very difficult and she is bored with her work. And she is lonely! So when a distant cousin, Dido, dies she does to the island of Guernsey (where she was born and lived until she left for personal and professional reasons) to the house she and her sister have jointly inherited and helps her sister to sort things out in the house. After a serious row with her sister she settles into the house and makes some strange discoveries. She finds out that Dido had an older sister called Persephone. Her cousin went missing mysteriously one evening and was never found. No-one knew what happened to her or where she went. Lucy is determined to find out. She does this through looking at photos, newspaper clippings, history reports and talking to people. She finds out how difficult life was like for the people during the second world war and how Persephone risked her life to help the people on the island. There were some unexpected events that occurred and some moving, sentimental moments which the reader will find moving! It was well written bringing the era and characters to life. It was well worth reading!
