The story of Great Britain 's enormously capable reciprocating engined Firefly used in many offensive roles. Alongside the Tempest and Sea Fury, this piston engined beauty had reached the end of airframe development and ....the Jet Age had arrived! Then, suddenly, after absurd political interference and military ignorance, Britain found herself 5 years behind the U.S. (F-9F) with its straight winged Sea Hawk naval fighter (bomber,) as a sole contemporary. By then the Sea Venom and Meteor jets were old hat as well. In other words, a fantastic aircraft but clearly obsolete by the mid 50s, lagging behind both the U.S. and USSR. Recommended.
