    Dramatic Love Story and Strong Female Lead!

    This movie keeps you on the edge of your seat with intense passion and diverse scenes with several men who all love the same woman. She is single, independent, and determined to live her life without depending on a man. It is a emotional roller coaster and kept me wandering how the movie would end. If you love romance, drama, and this time period, than grab your popcorn and enjoy the movie!

    Better than the book.

    Being a Merchant and Ivory fan, I knew this genre would not disappoint. But I didn't expect it to be as good as it was. The scenery was magnificent. The story was plausible. The actors were believable. And it didn't hurt that they were all good looking. I loved the independence of the heroine, and I similarly loved the strength and pride of her hero. I'm not a movie reviewer, but I watch a lot of movies and though I've owned this for less than two weeks, I've watched it three times, each time seeing or hearing something I missed before. I look forward to the next time I curl up on the couch while it's snowing, and revisit that spectacular galloping horse scene as she wraps her arms around his waist, holding on for dear life. OMG!

    A prideful woman; A gentle but persistent shepherd!

    I think I own a movie of every Thomas Hardy novel that has been made into a movie. This one is definitely one of my favorites. I had rented it several times and then still purchased the DVD because I enjoyed it so much. Bathsheba's prideful declaration, that she would make good on her own and that Gabriel was not the man for her because he was below her new station and not the kind of man that could ever tame her, appears to be the correct judgment given the Shepherd's sudden losses and gentle nature. And so the story is one of her prideful bungling of her own life and his unfailing steadfastness in spite of it all. In the end it is just that persistent gentleness that is the undoing of her pride - the gentle but firm prodding of a shepherd always looking after the good of his wayward ...

    "A Movie worth watching with great features"

    Far From the Madding Crowd is an interesting movie and was well written and produced. It is never boring and full of interesting scenes. I don't want to give it away but if you like a movie with a sense of adventure and fairly fast paced, I recommend watching it.
