Die Samsung SpinPoint M40 ist eine 2,5 Zoll große interne Festplatte, die sich mit ihren geringen Abmessungen von 7 cm x 10 cm x 0.9 cm leicht in den heimischen PC oder Laptop einbauen lässt. Mit nur 40 GB bietet sie zwar nur geringe Speicherkapazität, aber die Schreib- und Lesegeschwindigkeit von 5400 RPM bietet innerhalb von 12 ms Zugriff auf gespeicherte Daten. Außerdem funktioniert der Datentransfer mit einem Cache von 8 MB reibungslos. Die Samsung Festplatte bietet eine ATA-6 Schnittstelle, welche einen parallelen Datentransfer zwischen Speichermedien und/ oder Laufwerken und dem Computer ermöglicht. Der Ultra DMA Modus ermöglicht einen Datentransfer von bis zu 100MBps.
