At last an American comedy series that is actually funny-it's like watching Friends but with balls!!! I couldn't fault the cast and was captivated by the characters they portrayed-and I couldn't wait to see what they got up to next! Duchovny is great as Hank,a writer who is wallowing in self-pity over a lost love (and it is actually a love story???!!!) who seeks solace in drink,a bit of illegal substances and a lot of naughty encounters with various women! It still remains tongue in cheek---or anywhere else you can think to stick it!!!!! I'm really glad I listened to people who had seen this and managed to get hold of it----HUGE fun!!!!!
David Duchovny (X-FILES) returns to the small screen as Hank Moody, a hangdog novelist on the skids in L.A. in both his career and family life. When not hopping into the sack with any woman who gives him the time of day, Hank struggles to connect with his ex-girlfriend, Karen (Natascha McElhone), and their young daughter, Becca (Madeleine Martin). A painful case of writer's block resulting from his novel's disastrous film adaptation, plus Karen's new beau, don't help matters any. But along the way Hank makes a few clumsy steps toward putting his life back in order. Duchovny, with a permanent five o'clock shadow, is perfect as a loveable loser, prone to bouts of drinking and drugs, but never losing the audience's sympathy. This collection presents all 12 episodes of the whimsical series' first season. Released 16 June 2008 Category: Drama / Comedy Director: Scott Winant Starring: Madeleine Martin , Evan Handler , David Duchovny , Madeline Zima , Natascha McElhoneRead full review
This is the first series of a very funny, thought provoking show. Very adult in theme but well written and acted. By the time you get to series four you'll be willing 'Hank Moody'to get his S*** together!
I thought this series was brilliant from the Pilot onwards. At first I was sceptical having only seen David Duchovny in the X Files being an avid fan, I was wondering what to expect of him in a sassy comedy but it didnt disappoint. I really enjoyed the witty humour and adult scenes definately worth viewing.
Really easy going and fun series...Casting is amazing since only Duchovny could be that kind of man-writer and a sex addict. As far as I know he is a sex addict in real life too and that's why he joined a rehab centre for that. Hope series 2 is the same or better
