Unfortunately I delayed to write in response your question about my satisfaction about the HP Irvine-GL6E Motherboard Foxconn MCP73S01 6189-0662 LGA 775 DDR2 Mini-ITX, because, believe you or not, once more I received another item Bad On Arrive!!! It was well packed, inside an anti-static bag, sealed and with a very good appearance. As published by the vendor "refurbished by manufacturer and working as a new one!!! I used another Core 2 Duo Processor and two Kingston 1GB memory banks working in one another computer, I changed the power supply, I tested these two DDR2 800MHz original "Smart" HP memory banks in another motherboard and they are Ok!! What more can I do? The Irvine doesn't starts the video. Without memories it beeps like "looking for memories" but, with memories installed, it beeps continuously. I'm not a fool in this matter. I'm an electronic engineer and got 40 years of experience since with 20 years old I worked for IBM Brasil in hardware department. Aditionally, I spent up to USD60,00 in taxes to get the item bought. Can you help me? What more can I do? Is there any specific type of memory to run in this Irvine motherboard? I'm using the originals ones!!! Best regards, Eng. Ricardo GuerraRead full review
Because of the small form factor and the extremely small case on the HP "Slimline" pc's (mine is an S3400t), there is very little ventilation space. With a dual core processor and high speed graphics, these motherboards generate a lot of heat and are notorious for burning out the video chip, like a lot of poorly cooled laptops. These "recertified" motherboards have had the video chips "reballed" (resoldered). The first one I rc'd from China was DOA. I had to send it back at my expense but the seller sent me another, which works like new. Now the question is whether it will last longer than my original. This is still a good deal for the price to get my PC back up and running, but a poor design by HP regarding heat buildup and inadequate ventilation for the sake of making the case so small. (Still an awesome, super-fast, PC when its running though.)Read full review
I bought this because, the nvidia graphics chip in my HP Pavilion Desktop PC s3440jp was not working. (When started the PC, I was getting blank screen with Signal not found message) After installing this board, the system boots normally and now i get the display. Anyhow, I could not get the audio and not able to install the audio driver, which I need to check. This product was used and was in working condition.
It works, looks like it's just a resodered chip and will probably only last as long as the original. These boards have a passive heat sink for the video and from reading the forums it burns up a lot. I installed a small fan on top of mine to hopefully keep it cooler and maybe make the board last longer. EDIT: After about 6 months I got the same problem as before, burned out the video chip again. Even with the additional cooling these boards are just terrible. You honestly much better off finding a slim video card for it. I junked the pc and made another cheap replacement for it.
Works good in my silverstone sg13 case
