My Sony was getting awkward to control at low volume and was built so well, I could'nt get switch cleaner in there! Paid £1 for it in 2001 at a carboot sale, so did well with it! My new Philips, is neat size, sturdy and good to look at. The display helps, it has a clock but no alarm. Don't think display can be dimmed. Easy to setup. Seems its good at seeking in a low signal area. I borrowed a mates £90 Roberts and it struggled in the same poition I have the Philips. Sound from the 3 watt speaker is more suited to speech, (what I wanted) but there is no bass or treble control, just 1 preset sound. 65% volume is equivelant to someone in a room speaking to you, full volume will double that, but not advisable, just get a more wattage set if you need more noise. Decent set for the money. ***UPDATE*** As a couple of other reviews have mentioned....the rotary on/off switch seems a bit faulty. Sometimes works on 1st turn, sometimes takes a few goes. Think the trick maybe to keep turning it slowly towards half volume over 2 seconds, just before it compltes tuning in...but not very sure? Otherwise, once it is working fine, just turn off at mains and it seems to work 1st time everytime from mains wall switch. Hope this helps.Read full review

Hi bought the Philips dab from tesco outlet so it is refurbed some how but cheaper i won it for £30 so saved 20 on shop price they failed to mention they do not include the rechargeable batteries like you get in a new one so better buying the new when you add batteries on! Radio is neat with clean lines . Can be plugged into a timer and will and will come on same volume and station as powers on with volume button. The buttons are hard to read as so small. The sound is clear but volume is poor on this and No bass doesnt help. If it was for me or a main room i wouldnt buy one . If its in a small office or occasional use at breakfast its ok i got it for an aviary the birds seem happy with the clarity

Not a TV family so have a radio in most rooms. One went pop so bought as replacement for spare room. Easy to tune, ok reception for our area and the station we tune to. We use FM as dab is in and out. Not bad quality for the price paid. We are happy.
