I've used this type of processor for several years now, and never felt the need to overclock or update it. It is now cost effective and still provides a stable and reliable base for all the games and applications I use. Even playing the latest VR games such as Arizona Sunshine which state they need a 7th Gen i7 it performs flawlessly. The motherboards are excellent and although they may not have the m.2, they still are capable in their own right. I upgraded motherboard once in 5 years, so I could add a second video card in SLI, runs good on stock coolers and water cooled blocks as well. Still a valid and reliable processor. I'd recommend it, or it's i7 bigger brother the 3770k as a good gaming platform.

I wanted to raise the performance of an old gaming machine I had lying around, so replaced the existing CPU with this one, which was the highest spec the board would support. I wasn't able to get the clock to be stable above 4GHz as others had done, but the performance gain of 1GHz over the old one was well worth the effort. Still plays most of the games on Steam and some of the simpler VR titles such as Elder Scrolls VR.

Using this PC in my home server (DHCP, Pi-hole and Plex server). Easily up to all these tasks, plus the integrated graphics are perfectly capable of handling old games, should the need arise (think Half-life 2, haven't tried anything more modern).
