    Excellent product for model building.

What a wonderful little kit. Very well designed and implemented. I guess that's what I have grown to expect from Tamiya products. I bought this as a tool for wooden ship building. Not only does it work well, it was a blast to build. Simple, easy to follow instructions leads to a product that I will use for years to come. The motor is not overpowered like that of a Dremel tool. That's important as in model ship building, you want exact dimensions. This little tool is worth its weight in gold IMHO.

Lot of effort for little advantage.

Hoped this would take very small twist drills for delicate work but the smallest it will take is 1mm. Very disappointing after the effort involved in assembly. A different chuck to accommodate very fine diameter twist drills would be appreciated!!

  • TAMIYA ELECTRIC HANDY DRILL MODEL KIT

This hand drill comes as an unassembled model kit, once you assemble it you can use it on model kits and soft woods. it does drill pine wood and this drill is light in weight, would use for plastic kits and soft woods and resin models. This drill I would recommend for light labor, not heavy duty, the gearing inside is plastic, but it has a good feel and a great angle for drilling.

  • A must have for modelers and handcrafters!

I ordered this small gem by recommendation from a couple mate modelers because I was having problems drilling my styrene model kits with the RTX rotary tool as it spins too fast that the heat of the drill melts the plastic. Anyway, I have to confess that I had serious doubts that it would work. C'mon... a drill that you have to assemble out of a kit? Surprisingly it works and very well! And I must say that the little beast has a hell of a torque in a considerable low speed that won't melt the plastic (I think I read 400 rpm somewhere). Also it is super-ergonomic, a certain weight that gives some balance and a very comfortable grip. Let's see the details. It came in a nice 9" x 5.5" card box. Opening the box, you will find three sprues in different colors: a blue one with the tool "hull", ...

  • Building and Using the Tamiya Handy Drill

The Tamiya Handy drill comes in a fairly small box. It is a KIT and needs to be assembled like any other model kit. You get several sprue trees of parts in a number of colors as well as assorted metal parts, the motor and some screws, washers and circle clips. There are extra washers and clips in case the carpet monster eats one. Assembly requires 2 different sized phillips screwdrivers and a set of needlenose pliers which don't come with the kit. The assembly takes anything from 30mins to a few hours. It took me around 2.5 hours since I took my time. You have a small tube of grease which you need to apply to the gears etc as you assemble. Caveats. The drill comes with 2 different chucks with the smallest taking down to a 1mm drill bits. Out of the box you can't use smaller bits so don't ...
