as a padlock they do the job however, having now purchased 2 of these items i have found that you do have to be very precise when trying to unlock them. all 4 digits of your code do need to be precisely lined up otherwise it won't unlock.
Apart from that, mine are outside and they seem to be holding up to the wind and rain.
