  • Excellent book

I read this book for my Language of Grace in Modern Literature class during my seminary career at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington D.C. The book was an easy read and the story was captivating. I just now watched the movie (James Earl Jones version) and my only complaint was that the book made it more clear that Stephen Kumalo's child was being born while the movie didn't quite make it clear. I found that to be an important point. The book was awesome, the movie was awesome. I may read it again on vacation.

  • Avid reader

My second reading of this book. Very easy prose to read, but a bit too many repeated sentences for my taste. One or two gives you the idea or just adding "over and over" would suffice. Beautifully described country and people. Problems of the area are brutal and painfully described. All in all I am glad I reread the book. Doing that always gives a further insight on the book.

  • Awesome book! Entertaining and educational!

Very good book. My son had to read it for his 10th grade English and communications class. He really enjoyed the book, and he is not a big fan of reading. That says a lot for this book. It has suspense, emotional rollercoaster, history lessons, etc all rolled into one.

  • Cry the Beloved Country

This is a great book. I bought it to read for my 20th Century World History class because it discusses the lasting effects of colonization in South Africa as well as the apartheid government system. It has a powerful message and is peotically written.

  • Cry, The Beloved Country

I saw the movie one night and was captivated by it. I ordered the book and thoroughly enjoyed reading about Stephen Kumalo, a very good man in a troubled country. His slow, plodding faith carried him through great sadness and helped him retain his hope in man and God's goodness. This fictional character is an example to me and all who suffer.
