About this product

Product Information

Sensationalist director Nick Broomfield delivers his most personal film with this bracing, powerful sequel to 1992's AILEEN WUORNOS: THE SELLING OF A SERIAL KILLER. Ten years after making that film, Broomfield returns to the story of America's first female serial killer, who murdered seven truck drivers over the course of 12 months in Florida, requested execution as punishment, and on October 9, 2002 was put to death. Broomfield's film shows Aileen's final appeal before her execution and identifies a whole new set of problems in reviewing her testimony. For one, Aileen contradicted her initial claim that she killed the truck drivers in self defense, stating instead that she murdered them in cold blood. Also, Broomfield realized that Aileen was potentially insane. Somehow, Florida governor Jeb Bush ignored this possibility and accepted her request for execution. After interviewing several of her closest companions, Broomfield sat down with Aileen herself for her final interview, in which she accuses law enforcement officials of knowing about her killing spree and not stopping it. While Broomfield has been criticized for being too active a participant in his films, this time it is warranted. His strong connection to Aileen turns the film into a deeply personal meditation on the life of a truly troubled individual and a scathing attack on America's corrupt justice system.

  • Aileen: The Life and Death of a Serial Killer (DVD,2004

This is a jaw dropping documentary from beginning to the very end. Aileen Wuornos is very blunt..forward..and does not hold back any details of the murder(s) that she has commited towards so many men. The documentary is also touching in a way because you spend the entire time watching this alive person give interviews..and suddenly at the end she is executed through letal injection. The documentary is automatically unique because were so used to seeing men on death row giving their interviews. But in this case it's a women on death row giving an interview about the murders that she has commited. There was nothing that I disliked about this documentary. I decided to buy this documentary because I like actual real footage of interviews like this..I don't like episodes that just talk ...

  • Real Life Monster

This excellent documentary tries to pick the brain of America's first female serial killer. Nick Broomfield gives us a tour of her background, from when she was a child to her friends and family. The main point to this movie is to show how crazy this woman really was, and to show that she should never have been executed due to her insanity. It's also a good comparison to the movie Monster, Charlize Theron's portrayal is hauntingly accurate. You'll realize why she won an Oscar. The movie is very informative and let's us into a small part of Aileen's world with all of her conspiracy theories and crazy antics. If you've seen Monster, you must see the Real Life Monster.

  • If you were impacted by Monster, then watch this!

If you were deeply impacted by the intensity of the film Monster with Charlize Theron and Christina Ricci, then you must view this excellent documentary about the real "Monster," Aileen Wuornos, convicted for multiple killings and executed in 2002. Whether you think Aileen was sane or insane, a truth-teller or liar, a sociopath or a poor girl-gone-bad, you will touched by the story of her childhood, full of abuse and neglect, and you will be chilled by the interviews that British director Nick Broomfield filmed with Aileen. Broomfield crafts the entire film to remain as raw and unflinching in its view as Aileen herself is in the interviews. As a college professor, I recommend this well-edited, thought-provoking film to anyone in the criminal justice or psychology fields and especially to ...

  • Good follow-up to her previous interviews.

  • Good flick if that's all it were, but it's for real, which is saddening.

The prime example of a fully unleashed sociopath is revealed here. Every aspect of the psychological term is generally interpreted with the subject's words, based on her actions of killing and her evolving mindset ever attempting to reason then resolve her horrific misdeeds, never pulling the viewer into accepting her as anything but a vicious sociopath, with all the remorseless behavior that typically accompanies it.
