If you can get one, get it!
I just picked up one of these in working original condition. Currently under going a recap job for the 45+ year old components. The build quality of these units is outstanding..a lot of thought and design went into these to make them some of the best receivers ever made. Typically, after a rebuild, these can push out well above the published wattage of 160 per channel. The tuners in these are extremely sensitive, able to pick up distant stations easily. Many believe these to be the very pinnacle of Pioneer engineering and quality because after the 1250, Pioneer was heading toward lesser quality units and cost cutting as the wattage wars were ending. Update Nov. 5, 2023: Finished the recap on the 1250 about a year ago now with every board except the tuning board. I purchased new power ... I purchased new power supply boards from a guy in Canada and the improvements they made in the stable power levels and lower running temps in the unit is remarkable! I have to say, the sound of this receiver just gets better and better with time. The only problem I have currently is I didn't clean the volume switch good enough the first time and now it is letting some sound come through the left channel speakers at the lowest point on the knob..so will have to take that switch out and do a more detailed cleaning. Other than that, this monster receiver is hands down the best one I've ever owned! It drives my vintage JBL L-200's and C-36 Tallboy's with no problems whatsoever. The bass is low and just right, the mid's are fantastic and the high's are excellent! I'll probably never part with this one!

Wish I Could Buy One New
As far as faceplates go, the SX-1250 is one of the greats. No one can reproduce these to this quality standard these days.

I have had mine over 20yrs still sounds good as ever. Blows my so called 1200w modern receiver away. Don't know how they calculate wattage now days but aparantly someone has their thumb on the scale. If you can find one get it. I might would even sell mine for the right price. I'm getting old and don't listen to it as much as I used to
