When "Wild in the Streets" came out in 1971, I was 17. I loved the premise of change, but the dark side of change portrayed in this movie, scared me. If it was rereleased today, I think it would still scare adults, who read "1984", because I see "new speek" everywhere. Texting has obscured learning English, grammar, and complete sentences seem no longer part of our culture. We have lost touch with reality, just as this movie predicted. Only it wasn't by adding LSD to the water, just toxic chemicals and thoughts to our environment. Control was a big issue in this film, especially votes, which is still true today. I bought the film to show a friend what part the "counter-culture" played, in affecting the changes we all wanted. I found it to still be disturbingly relevant, if dated by styles of dress and music, but "The Shape Of Things To Come" is still a great song and always will be. Gas-s-s-s was meant as a parody of all the angst young people felt for authority, relationships, and growing up in the upheaval of late 60's, such as Vietnam, the space race, cold war. This film, though similar to "Brave New World" but dated and kitchy, has an unending supply of cliche's. Some now well- known actors got their start in films like this. I will probably not view it again, but will share it with other friends.Read full review
If you like the old drive in movies from the early 70's than this dvd is for you."Gasss" has Cindy Williams aka Shirley from the Laverne and Shirley tv show and its a hoot watching her as a hippie stoner. The movie is low budget and dumb but that's what makes it great. Its the kind of movie that you just have to keep watching because you cant believe people would make such a weird movie. "Wild in the streets" is a minor classic ! Making a teenager the President and shipping off anyone over the age of 25 to a LSD camp (That's right ! "LSD"). They pump the old people which are now younger than me with LCD to mellow them out. Shelly Winters who is one of my all time fav stars as the mom of the new president and with Hal Holbrook as the dad who are both sent to such a camp. The only part I dont care for is there are to many singing numbers in the film. I prefer just a talking movie. But with two movies for the price of one on a dvd it is a good deal. Younger kids might not like the campy style but than again they might just get a big kick out of it. Enjoy !Read full review
These two shows suffer a bit from the lack of a good production backing, but the basic premises - especially of Wild in the Streets is one to contemplate as possible. With the emphasis on the youth culture still rampant in the US despite the fact that most people are over the age of 25 by a great deal, makes you wonder why Madison Ave still caters to 12 year old girls with all their adds. These are both good copies and no problems with them. I would think someone should consider updating both with some good effects and a bit more thought behind the ramifications of their plots, not just the immediate superficial realities shown here.
Definitely a movie of it's time, nonetheless it does hold-up fairly well. Far fetched, but the characters are engaging. Truly entertaining.

We ordered this DVD for the movie "Wild in the Streets". Getting the other movie, "Gassss", with it was a bonus, and it is actually a good pick as a companion piece. Although "Wild in the Streets" is campy, and the music is quite dated (as are we), the story line is still a classic. We got it for ourselves to watch for the first time in many years, as it never seems to be on cable/satellite networks, and now we can't wait to show our grandchildren. It is not a piece of great film making perhaps, but it is definitely great fun! It is an interesting look at a very different time socially in our history, when the young outnumbered the old. If you teenagers can stand the dated music, it has a lot to say about how younger people feel in a world dominated by their elders. We Highly recommend this DVD!Read full review
