Sin embargo, el precio de esta transformación ha sido muy alto. En su paso desde la inocencia y el idealismo de la juventud hasta la más extrema corrupción de su vida adulta, Artemio se nos presenta como una metáfora de la Revolución Mexicana, donde una minoría sin escrúpulos no vaciló en aprovechar en su propio beneficio el caos y la inestabilidad que siguió al conflicto.
