      The only stem kit for old Arrowhead hydrants that you should buy

      I had a pre-1999 Arrowhead outdoor anti-siphon hydrant, 420 series, 12”. I ordered the Arrowhead PK2012SP stem assembly for older models. It was just a 1/4” too long and I had to return it. I called Arrowhead and they said that I needed the select-a-length kit as the previous stem kit doesn’t always work. The sizing directions on the kit can be somewhat confusing but if you just line them up so they are the same length and cut off the excess it works fine. I found that it was best to cut a bit longer then just keep filing down about 1/32” until it seals and the handle works. You can be off 1/16 of an inch and it will work. When you are finished you will have a hydrant with no leaks that now uses a springless check valve.
