I decided to buy this machine because of the price. Looked at many others (Pfaff, Bernina, Brother). I like using the computer to power the machine. It makes the actual machine more like a printer. The software is okay, but took a little while to get used to. I haven't had good luck with Autopunch. Resizing seems to work well. You can add several designs and text to create exactly what you want before sending it to the machine. Easy to download files from the internet and accepts almost any format. Included designs were nothing fancy. The embroidery is not as crisp as some of the more high powered machines, but it does a find job. The machine is very picky. The threading has to be done just right or thread and/or needle breaks. Remember to put your presser foot up when threading and use the "horizontal" thread feed with the thread net. Two sizes of hoops for more options. Lots of nice included stitches. You cannot embroider on something small like a sleeve or the bottom of a pair of pants. If you can't spend thousands of dollars on a machine, this is a good choice. Just be patient when you are starting off. Good luck.Read full review
I am quite pleased with my purchase of the Singer CE-250. It is easy to use once you practice and become familiar with the materials, thread, and how much stabilizer to use! I love being able to digitize my own designs but that is also a skill that takes some practice. I guess I thought I would be able to jump right in and make everything I wanted and it is just not that easy. I am having some trouble with the machine accepting some of the designs that I have purchased. I think they are too dense and cause the machine to push the material down into the bobbin area. I have learned to 'dumb' down the designs so they are a bit more simple and less dense but I wish the machine would be good enough to accomplish the designs as I purchased them. Overall the machine is great for home use. I can not afford to purchase a high-end machine but if I could I think I would be much happier. I thank Singer for making a machine that allows us in the middle-class to be able to embroider!Read full review
The CE250 is a great starter embroidery machine. It doesn't do many fancy things like the ones that cost $1000+. But, for simple designs and lettering, it's perfect. The software takes some time to learn, if you don't have the tutorial and are too used to everything looking Microsoft-made. You have to practice with different stabilizers and backings. Plan on messed up and uncentered work, for a while!! It's your learning curve, not the machine's fault. I only use this machine for embroidery. I have a simpler Singer machine for basic sewing. All in all, it's a fun toy and a great way to personalize presents. Give a person a $2 kitchen towel with their name on it, and their eyes just light up, like you spent a fortune.
This sewing machine has great capabilities and many functions. The user manual is very hard to follow and poorly written. The machine seems to be very sensitive regarding needle position and displays error messages with no guidance on how to correct them. Sometimes there are error messages and no error. I'm finding it hard to operate and am frustrated at this point. I'm looking for a local class to get some hands on instruction. Interestingly enough; I'm an old home ec teacher with very updated computer skills and should be able to figure it out! The regular sewing features are easy enough but the embroidery unit is difficult and sensitive. I've had the machine since Jan. 2nd and have already broken 6 needles.
I wanted a new sewing machine so I decided I might as well have a really nice one. I also wanted a very good price and I know that e-Bay was the place to find it so I watched and bid for a few days and then I found just what I wanted at a buy it now price or Make an offer so I made an offer and they counter offered and I purchased the machine New in the box. It was shipped immediately and I was sewing on it in no time. I really love this machine. It is what I have always wanted. It is so easy to use and to make beautiful stitches just at the touch of a button. Thanks to E-Bay I was able to find this $3,000 machine for only $700.00. I am very, very happy with my purchase & also the buyer was so nice. I always choose E-Bay when I need to make a big or even small purchases because I know I can get a good price if I will just be patient and look for what I need.Read full review
