I already have a Canon DSLR but I wanted a smaller cheap camera with all the advanced settings for my workshop. The Canon PowerShot G6 is ideal for the job as it has all the features and an excellent lens. I use it on a tripod with the ISO set to the minimum of 100 for excellent sharp photos. 7 MP is ideal for taking photos for the website or customers as you usually have to scale them down for email. I recommend this camera especially at the price they are going for now. If you already have a DSLR it's worth buying one as a spare to keep in the camera bag.

I am a keen carp fishermen and i have always found taking pictures of my catch a problem especially at night when I am on my own,I need to be in control of the carp so it doesn't cause itself any harm so I realised that to do this I would need a camera in which I could take photos with some kind of a remote.last year a member of my syndicate introduced me to the canon g6 which basically has all the features in a camera I was looking for,not only does it have a cordless remote for taking snapshots it also has a pop out swivel LCD so I can see the picture without moving away from the fish, photos are also of superb quality,so for these reasons I can highly recomend the g6 wether you are a fisherman or somebody who wants a camera to take superb pictures with.
A little dated by digital compact standards but still a very capable camera capable of excellent results. The G series in the Canon range was aimed at the person who wanted more than basic settings and controls and suits the more advanced amateur, the G6 has a good zoom range (4X) and Canons usual sharp lens. The 7.1 megapixel sensor produces excellent images up to A4, the camera is quite bulky compared with most compacts but has the added feature of an optical viewfinder which is essential when taking a shot in bright sunlight when the LCD screen cannot be seen clearly. Fun to use and highly recommended, a great easy to carry back up camera rather than a heavy SLR kit.

Very impressed with this camera, easy to use and yet with a decent array of features for anyone seeking to go beyond the "point and shoot" stage. Photos are clear and detailed and despite it's age and relative lack of MP it is still one of the best out there. Highly recommended.

Been after one of these following reading how rated they are for angling self takes. finally got my hands on one and am very pleased. easy to use adjustable timer with remote and the rotating screen makes self takes a doddle. Other cameras will do this but for the money I rate this one. Search out a good one they are out there.
Brought out about 4 or 5 years ago, the G6 is the last of the more bulky yet robust "G compact" cameras. Mint ones are still selling for £150 or so, and the slightly quirky design tells you that there is something to be said for buying one. There are sufficient megapixels at 7.4, and a very high quality sensor such that results are sharp, crisp and easily enlargable to A4 size without significant loss in quality. Noise levels are ok for the period, and the RAW setting gives full control over your results. The relative bulk of the camera, as compared with later Canon Gs, allows a good grip, but the camera will hardly fit in the average pocket. You could do a lot worse than the Canon G6 if you want a robust reliable camera that has a certain type of what could be described as old fashioned charm.Read full review
I have used one of these cameras since it came out and it is not possible to buy it easily now. It is still one of the very best compact digital cameras and as I have all the batteries, chargers and memory cards for it - I decided that I would like to have a spare just in case. I bought the 'spare' from ebay and it came with all sorts of extras which I did not already have. I works perfectly and I was delighted with the seller who took endless time and trouble to wrap it well, and post it safely . I have had more advanced digital cameras - but in my view this model with its tiltable viewfinder AND eye viewfinder is still one of the very best especially for pet portraits and close ups and also extremely good and better than other in low light conditions. It is robust and easy to carry and one of the best models Canon has ever made.Read full review
