Elfrida Phipps, once of London's stage, moved to the English village of Dibton in hopes of making a new life for herself. Gradually, she settled into the comfortable familiarity of village life--shopkeepers knowing her tastes, neighbors calling her name--still she finds herself lonely.

    Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher (2000) UA Cass

    I love this book. I have it in UA (unabridged) book and cassettes. I have read it several times and listened to is countless times as I am driving on long trips and on long winter days as I knit and watch the snow. It is a heartwarming story that R. Pilcher has brought together with wit and realism. All of her characters are believable; they could be our family, friends and acquaintances. She weaves the story with beautiful descriptions, each person's feelings are so real. You feel the joy, the sadness and most of all the hope and love. I would recommend this book for almost any age.
