When released in 1969, The Wild Bunch was condemned for its ultra-violent ending. In today's cinematic light, it is much more. It deals with hard men living in hard, changing times, honor, camraderie, and acceptance of fate. It is a great western from the tortured soul of Sam Peckinpah with indelible performances from William Holden, Robert Ryan, Ernest Borgnine, Warren Oates, Edmond O'Brien and Ben Johnson. Add great supporting actors (Strother Martin. L.Q. Jones, Albert Dekker & others), and you have the perfect mix. The Blu ray format adds new presence (you can see sweat, stubble, dust, blood, etc.). A surprise is the remastered Dolby soundtrack with detailed surround (you need a good subwoofer for the train robbery scene). If you are afan of Westerns, this belongs in your Blu ray collction!Read full review
This is, possibly, THE last classic western to have been made, to date. It is so much more than just a robbery and posse movie and deals with people who are living as societal changes are making their former lives unacceptable. It touches on the corruption that was going on between the US and the Mexican military after the Mexican War for independence. The performances, the script, direction - all are among the best that movies have had to offer. The blu-ray is one of the best from Warner Home Video.

If you're old enough to remember early Westerns (TV, or movies, or both) you'll remember that producers were so afraid of offending anyone that they would stage ridiculous shootouts. No one ever got killed, and seldom even wounded. The good guy would shoot at the bad guy's gun, knocking it out of his hand, but not even bruising his fingers. Right!!! I don't know about you, but if I ever wound up in a gunfight, I sure wouldn't aim for the other's guys fingers. This movie ended all that nonsense for ever. The violence is very real, very close up, and done in slow motion so you don't miss a single bit of the bloodshed. It changed the style of Westerns, and most action flicks, forever. If you're faint-hearted this movie is not for you. But if you like action movies, this is probably the very first real one, and you shoulnd't miss it.Read full review
This is a must have classic for any serious cowboy movie lover. Over the top action. Story line is a little loose and seems to be more of an excuse to shoot up, blow up and cause mayhem. But hey isn't that what we want in any great action movie. Buy it you will not regret it.

One of the best 50 westerns ever. Some place it in the top ten. Great direction, acting, editing and cinematography. Saga of aging outlaws in changing times. Very violent - not for kids. Director Sam Peckinpaugh's finest film.
