Playing the game was 95% a great game. When you see a preview on TV, and then get to experience the detail that was put into this game was breathtaking! I love playing these kind of games that have a well put-together storyline with lots of action and detailed illustration. To me it was exactly what the God of War series was almost to the letter. You have to gain experience points(souls) that you upgrade, you swim under water, the mechanics of the attack combos feel the same, and there are a crap load of puzzles. One main difference, was a side weapon called the Crossblade. It acted like a boomerang that transfers energy and fire. The first time you have to use it your are told that it can transfer energy, but it doesn't show you! You spend like 30 minutes looking for the next move-on point, but you don't realize that it right in front of you face! When you play the game, you have to transfer flames to open gas pipes, or hit 2 swords that chime to open doors. It took me 21 hours to finish it, and a lot of other people say it is a good 16 hour game. This is due to all of the puzzles that take some time to figure out, and you end up back tracking towards the end of the game through the entire map. The worst part of the whole game for me was the freezing, and other times where it loops the music or a phrase then freezes in about 30 seconds! I would have to say I had to turn my console off and on about 50 times! After rebooting your system, you can go to about where you stopped where it auto saved last. However, you learn the hard way when it's 1 am, and you load the last save point instead of the auto load. This will take you back to the last time you saved the game when you go into the "data menu". It took me an hour to just get back to were it was when it crashed. After that, I saved all of the time to not have to replay what I just did. Here are some of the solutions I came across for the freezing: I ended up using 6.4 gigs to save it to my hard drive, that many people recommended. Someone else recommends putting the disk in boiling water for 15 seconds then drying it of to remove the film from the disc's production. I didn't want to do that, but I almost did. I would recommend that you just "clear system cache" on your hard drive before starting this game. That is where you go into the memory option in your Systems Settings, then hit the Y button when highlighting your hard drive to "clear system cache". So far, this has been the best option before I started the 2nd time around. They say that Vigil will eventually put out a patch for the game, but that will take time..... I have heard that ONLY some people have these freezing issues. The problems are NOT critical, meaning after a restart the same glitch won't happen again. Some people play the whole game with only a couple freezes. My game was factory sealed, and had these glitches. I would still highly recommend this game, even for some minor problems.Read full review
Darksiders is fun to play with the needs no talent or skill combo system and the multitude of enemies popping out of nowhere. The are only three weapons but each have thier own use. There are also Many other devices that must be used to complete each stage. The hero lacks personality, but makes up for it with a well designed apperance. The story line consists of a heaven and he'll battle gone wrong and a horseman (your character) who must restore balance. This game reminds me of PS2's Devil May Cry with the weapons, playstyle, and of course a devil trigger which has been renamed chaos form. The is definately worth playing especially if you enjoyed Devil May Cry.
It's this level of polish and creative assuredness that really make Darksiders such a delight in the end. It's bold and recklessly inventive in ways that games rarely are these days, and virtually every aspect of Darksiders shines with quality, making for an experience that, while not exactly original, still feels fresh, satisfying and, above all else, . It's far from the soulless fighter THQ's marketing would have you believe and the deft mix of combat, platforming and puzzle-solving makes for an action adventure that genuinely does feel like an epic endeavour. It's a genre too few developers try their hand at these days and one that's rarely done well. Despite some flaws, Darksiders is an expertly designed, frequently dazzling spectacle - and if it really is the first in a series as Vigil suggests, we're genuinely looking forward to seeing more. 9.0 Presentation Great sense of style, cool chunky characters, nicely framed cutscenes, boils down information/collectables well in the pause menus. 9.0 Graphics Far better use of colour than most games with grim settings like this. Well-realised, varied environments. Occasionally walking animations look cumbersome, but generally the animations are excellent. 8.5 Sound Good voice acting for the most part... although the guy who plays War chews the scenery a bit too much at times. Excellent score. 8.5 Gameplay Amazing how well this comes together considering how many mechanics and different control combinations are packed in. A little easy... and a few clumsy sequences, but great overall. 8.0 Lasting Appeal No multiplayer, but this is a pretty decent length single player game. 9.0 Outstanding OVERALL This game is available for sale in my eBay store at a good price: http://mariio128.comRead full review
One word for you all.. God Of War. For all those unfamiliar with it, it's like Darksiders on crack. Having that said this is a copy of that great franchise with different hero and fifferent story which is not all that great, to be honest. Having that said if you have never played GoW or would just like to try exact same gamplay in different envoiroment and with differetn characters this id definite buy! Graphics are real eye candy, voice acting is damn near perfect and gameplay is so varied that it will feel fresh all the way through. Animation are fluid, enemies varied and overall experience is awesome. Highly recommendable game and just to be fair. For all of you who have never tried GoW this is TOTAL EXCELLENT rating!
Darksiders is a fun game. Easy and simple and if you are a bit more than a casual gamer then this game if for you. If you are a hardcore Devil May Cry - Ninja Gaiden gamer, this one will be VERY frustrating. There's a lot of walkaround which can become very boring. Also, puzzles arent complicated, they dont need brainwork, they just demand a lot of work (and time) to solve. I expected a little more from a 17+ game. And personally I dont like the art direction of the game. The main character (War, as one of the 4 horseman of the apocallypse) was designed using EVERY cool thing about caracters: Hood that hold eyes, deep voice, cheesy words, huge sword, great armor, huge gauntlets and so on. It takes away ALL the personality of the character. Even so, I am playing it and i am having fun.
Darksiders is a mix of the action RPG, platformer, and dungeon crawler. It borrows heavily and rather directly from games such as Legend of Zelda, God of War, and even the popular puzzle game, Portal. For some gamers, this may be a frustration because it could cause them to feel as if the developers at Vigil only copied the ideas from other IP's. In my opinion, however, while Darksiders borrows ideas, the final product stands on its own and is an excellent game. For Xbox players who have had little or no opportunity to play these other games, it is really a breath of fresh air to a system that lacks many of these more traditional style games. The story, too, is rather original, though it does lack depth. In my opinion this does not hurt the game; for a good story see a Bioware product. For something a little less heavy on story and absent of conversation wheels, enjoy Darksiders. The game also benefits from excellent voice acting, including Mark Hamill. Depth aside, the narrative is quite compelling. I was able to beat the game in about 20 hours. As I beat the game on the Apocalyptic setting, my time is going to be rather higher than those who play on the easier setting. That said, this game has a truly excellent and forgiving checkpoint system which admirably leaves the challenge, but dispenses with the frustration. Overall, this game is a blast to play and is well worth your time and money. After I finished I couldn't help wanting to play Darksiders II. To my delight the sequel has not only been announced, but trailers are already available online. Happy Gaming!Read full review
While plenty of games are set in a postapocalyptic wasteland, not many let you participate in the actual end of the world. In the case of Darksiders, this is precisely where the action begins. Influenced by games like God of War and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Darksiders offers an expansive world to explore, with satisfying combat and intriguing puzzles to solve peppered throughout. Darksiders is nonetheless a thoroughly fun and visually engaging adventure that manages to take some old ideas and make them feel fresh once again.
This game is awesome, first of all, the gore & blood is gorgeous, if your'e into that, u'll love this!. The game takes a little bit of the dungeon exploring, puzzle solving and combat schemes from the zelda series, and it mixes it with some of the fast paced action, blood & gore, and massive combos typically found in games like god of war. All mixed up with a nice topping of demons vs angels and men in the middle story. 9/10, great game!!
I love the idea of the story line but the game graphics are tremendously weak for being such a new game. Reminds me of the original God of War graphics. Other than that it has a very good plot and fun to play. Lastly, the game is very tedious, I tend to beat games in 1 - 2 days. This game is actually quite long. I am on day 3 and still not even half way. Loving the fact it takes a while to beat it, I am tired of 1 - 2 day games. Love this though :)
This gave was fantastic, the game play is smooth and its undeniably fun. You cant compare this game to God of War first off because its not an Xbox game and of course the game play between two systems is different. This game posed a decent challenge on the Normal difficulty, what i did first. Then i did Apocolyptic and it was a tough challenge that i loved to complete. The game has a few kinks to work out but nothing that hinders the fun of the game. It is a little difficult to find all weapon enhancements, additions and extra things for War because of the little nooks and crannys inside the game. Take your time, explore the game's worls that war needs to restore and you will have one hell of an experience and will then spread the word about an up and coming franchise that will hopefully be compareable to God of War and its series of games in the next few years.Read full review
