Wish I had this book 30 years ago

Although I'm close to retirement age, I picked up The Dangerous Book for Boys based upon someone else talking about it. This book has a little of everything including magic tricks, knots, codes and ciphers, tree identification, finding true north, fishing, stories, grammar, and other curious topics including what the big deal with girls is. Although it is written primarily for boys, I believe a lot of girls would find several of the topics informative and interesting although they make a companion book for girls.

  • The title is appropriate. There are dangers inside.

We had checked this book out of the library and loved it so much that I decided to purchase one for our family. It's 270 pages full of wisdom and wit "from eight to eighty". There is a plethora of "how to's" (making batteries, crystals and bow and arrows), the rules of playing rugby, soccer & stickball. It has sections on Question about the World, Famous Battles, Astronomy, Grammar, First Aid, History, Sports, Poetry, Science, Navajo Code, Latin Phrases....... It is truly an awesome book. As a homeschooler, we can't wait to glean form every page. Some subjects are hilarious, such as the section entitled "Girls", in which boys are given advice on how to talk to girls, behave around them, and so forth. For example: "7. If you see ...

  • A little bit of everything

Very pleased with this book. I gave it to my 10 year old son, and really it has covers topics to interest the whole family- from building forts to Shakespeare to dinosaurs to invisible ink to great battles throughout history.

  • Just like the old days!

This is a wonderful book for "boys" of all ages, not to mention the "girls" too! Written in a style and format reminiscent of books you see from the turn of the 20th century, this gem presents hours of useful and entertiaining tidbits of information. It is in a short format, most articles are only a few pages or less in length. Originally written for British readers, it has been "Americanized', and updated with current, as well as vintage articles. It's easy reading and great if you have a limited schedule and don't want to read the whole book or lose your train of thought. Looks like it was printed in 1910 with a sturdy binding, and gold gilt lettering. This book is a reader and a keeper. One you can pass on to the children and grandchildren.

  • BUY THE BOOK. You will not regret it!

This is the US version of the book, I think the only minor differences between this and the UK version is the fishing section and the famous baseball players I would assume that is the only thing. All and all this book is great! I'm not a boy but that's ok! This book is not limited to just boys (and older ones) anyway, There are lots and lots of activities and history lessons to learn in here, even Latin phrases! I think it's a great book for people of all ages wanting to get up and do an activity or experiment, or just learn something (this book teaches you a lot of things ^____^) I think this book is a great investment to get for yourself and then pass down to your kids :D And just for yourself to have as an adult since it is pretty handy-dandy like for example how to navigate if you ...
