A good DVD but I found a couple of things during the performance irritating but I guess you can blame the director or editors of the DVD. Mostly it's the persistent sparks and flashes across the TV screen. No need for it as they were also projected on the screen behind the performers. But maybe that's just me being picky. The projected 3D face of the late Richard Burton at the side of the screen I found a little disconcerting. However it is overall a very entertaining DVD with excellent performances from the cast and very true to the original double album.

Were I rich enough to fly to England to see this concert in person, I'd be there in a heartbeat. The next best thing is the DVD of what has to be one of the most ambitious works of musical genius. I remember this from my youth and was extremely pleased to find out that Jeff Wayne has seen fit to bring his magnum opus to live audiences. From the sonorous narration of the late, great Richard Burton, through the violin leitmotif, the impeccable "Forever Autumn", and right up to the end, you'll be amazed at the care and craft that Wayne poured into his effort to bring H.G. Wells' story of a Martian invasion during the Victorian Era to life. Even more amazing is just how tight and authentic this live performance is compared to the original album. Bringing the Moody Blues' Justin Hayward and Mannfred Mann's Chris Thompson in to reprise there original contributions is sauce for the goose. Extras on the DVD include a very cool piece on how they were able to "resurrect" Richard Burton to take his place on stage with the orchestra. Just make sure your DVD player can play region 2 discs because no one here this side of the pond has seen fit to make this wonderful concert available. If you can play such discs, I highly recommend adding this to your collection. I was given a second copy of this DVD with only one disc in it - thankfully it was the live performance one. Ever since I first heard Forever Autumn, I thought it was just a song by the Moody Blues, but digging further unearthed the double vinyl album which I bought when first released and to my familys annoyance would play them over and over again until my daughter dropped one LP and cracked it. I now have it on CD When I was in the UK in 2006, I think this show was being performed in Brighton to a sell out crowd. Having watched the DVD in its entirety, I marvel at the clarity of the voices of the performers and how true Jeff has stayed to the original masterpiece with the musicians. That poor lassie in the back playing tambourine, xylophone, harp etc certainly does a fantastic job...I close my eyes and I swear I'm listening to the CD - that and the stage production is just mind blowing...Apart from the story unfolding on a huge screen at the back, you have the Black Smoke Band and the ULLAdubULLA Strings performing, the singers acting their parts beautifully while Richard Burton hovers overhead supplying narration..... Two words sum up this DVD...absolutely brilliant!!......and my kids, now grown up, love it as much.Read full review
