They sound like brand new headphones despite the fact that they're second hand, and they're also the best headphones I've ever used. The sound settings are so customisable and I love the clear bass setting. I've cranked that up and edited the EQ to my liking and music has seriously never sounded so good and so crisp to me, especially once I enabled the LDAC codec. It's like a whole new dimension of sound. They make my old Beats Studio 3 headphones sound terrible honestly. I also love the ambient sound feature and how clearly and loudly you can hear outside noises from long distances away. Makes walking in nature a really vivid experience. I love these headphones!

Difficult and confusing to operate and setup. The instructions are very basic similar to an Ikea instruction manual. I wish I had bought easier to set up set of headphones. The sound quality and comfort levels are excellent..

Great product. Solid upgrade over my previous MDR-1000Xs. They're comfortable, lightweight, with USB-C to fast charge the large battery. Sound quality and noise cancelling are great, as expected from this line. A whole host of smart features are available, both on device and through the companion app. Pausing music when taking off the headphones and playing when they're back on is a nice feature. There's functionality in the app to play with the EQ, level of noise cancelling, connection to 2 devices simultaneously, and so on. Overall a solid pair of headphones, excellent for travelling and just listening to music. Though not recommended for workouts since it doesn't sport any official water resistance, and isn't really designed to be thrown around and abused as they would be when exercisingRead full review

I first came across Sony headphones when I purchased the first in the line of their signature Noise Cancellation headphones around seven years ago, when I bought the MDR1000X. So, when purchasing another pair I had to find the best contemporary pair. After researching for a couple of weeks, I made my decision to purchase the XM4, and I have absolutely no regrets. The noise cancellation is par excellence. And, compared to the remote hand gesture controls on the first model, the XM4 is so simple and easy to use. I do have one issue, I enjoy singing with the music, so can't really put the chat controls on. Also, the headphone ear pads are so so so soft. Which is great when using them, but makes me anxious when handling them or putting them down anywhere, especially with three kids and a cat on the prowl all the time. Furthermore, the biggest issue with earlier models is the fragility of the headband and especially the weakest link where the headphones connect to the headband, and rotate. Mine broke on my older set, and the cost of repair was really too high. So, that put me off from getting another pair for a few years. Until now. I wasn't aware of the issue before it happened, but I am now. So, with due attention, it shouldn't happen again... Hopefully...!!! Let's see how these faire.... Aside from these, they are great. First off, I have to admit I was lucky enough to get these for around £150 less than the original Sony asking price,, which I would have found challenging to justify to the family. However, they are exceptionally good and no question worth what I paid for them. The noise cancelling feature is top notch, anything you play using these is going to sound great. This is my experience having used them for around a fortnight now. I usually use the "Bright" setting, (with the Bass turned slightly down) accessible in the Sony Headphones app, a feature rich piece of software, acquired from the Play Store. I've had no issues with connection whatsoever, and all the functions work accordingly. I've turned off the "Speak to Chat" option, as it doesn't suit me, but that's a personal preference. There are comparable headphones out there from Bose or Apple, Bose are certainly a very good option, but I prefer the Sony for sound, aesthetics and build, however the Apple ones cost nearly £300 more than these and come with a sorry excuse for a carrying case and you have to buy a separate cable for wired listening, and Sony provide one, and a decent hard shell carrying case, with Apple it doesn't come with the headphones. For the price that's shameful. They sound Great, but not enough to pay that much more along with those limitations, that's just this reviewers opinion. The WH 1000 xm4 sound great listening to your music, movies, audio books, or from what I've been told phone calls, I was indoors at the time, as I use the Wf-1000xm3 when I'm out and about. As far as I'm concerned, if you can afford the XM4's and like the Sony sound, now improved even to the XM3's, it's a no brainer, get them, you can't go wrong, and I absolutely Recommend them.
