Relaxing acoustic pop at it's mellowest

Good selection of generally easy listening pop with elements of jazz & blues. An album you can put on and just relax to.

  • Sorry Katie but this one is not your best ..... let's see if it grows on me

Love Katie Melua and have enjoyed listening to 'Piece by Piece' 'Call off the Search' and 'the house' but sadly 'pictures' hasn't come up to expectation. Not her usual style and I wouldn't recommend.

  • erring on the side of ‘good’ rather than ‘undecided

I have always reserved judgement on Katie Melua. This her third album, and since her first two have both reached No 1 in the UK charts, she’s obviously doing something right. She certainly has a great voice and her lyrics seem to make far more sense than most. Everything she sings about seems to come from somewhere real, and she makes statements about things without actually ‘making a statement’. Throughout the album, there are the same everyday themes that someone like Lily Allen sings about, but with none of the brashness and ‘in your face-ness’ that Ms Allen adopts. Katie’s songs are far more subtle. “Mary Pickford (Used To Eat Roses)” is a great opener (despite its overwhelming similarity to The Beatles’ “Eleanor Rigby”) – it’s funny, quirky and immediately makes you think that ...

  • Another good album from Katie Melua

Having enjoyed Katie's first albums [Call Off The Search & Piece By Piece] I couldn't resist buying Pictures, her voice is just too good to miss. So, does Pictures match up to her previous two albums? Well, for me, not quite. Pictures doesn't stand up as being quite so strong or varied somehow. Difficult to define exactly why, possibly due to a slightly different style or direction of the musical arrangements. Never-the-less, I feel Pictures does represent a gradual progression for Katie's music and any fan of her music will not be disappointed. Despite my slightly negative comment above I'm glad I bought this album and look forward to her next one.
