The most attractive feature about this hard disk/DVD recorder is that you can dub from the HD to the DVD, and thus have backup copies of programmes (or DVDs to give to your friends). This is a feature that is rarely available (if at all) these days on TV recorders. The various catchup facilities on more modern TV recorders are fine, but for those who want a personal archive, this model is useful. Only one channel can be recorded at one time, though. There are many modes of compression you can use to record, (High definition, SD, LP etc) depending on how important you think the actual picture quality needs to be. Thus, on a 250 gb hard disk, you can store a substantial amount of recording. Other features are a useful editing facility, capacity to play MP3s and view JPEGs. Playing some types of compressed video formats are possible (but not MP4s). Storing from tape recordings from video cameras is also possible, and rapid DVD backup from an original DVD. Line-in recordings from old videos too.Read full review

It was supposed to be for any region but wasn't, there was no remote control to adjust the start up settings, couldn't find a code setting on the universal remote I had,

Much easier editing and more accurate than RDR HXD 710. Same remote will work with both. Better now with Digital aerial input. More difficult to change date and time as menus are completely different. Haven’t discovered hoe to reload a dubbed DVD yet as the unit came without the 150 page User Manual. Also the remote bundled with this machine only has limited functionality as it is a generic replacement product.

Only had this unit for a few weeks, but so far so good , fairly easy to use but did have to have some technical help from my partner as he has a similar machine. Have found that so far unable to finalise some of the dvds have not figured out why !!!. (yet). copying to hard drive has been no problem also dubbing has gone ok playing dvd on other machins has not been a problem even though have not been able to finalise them.

Very difficult to find HDD with DVD recorders. These Sony recorders are much better and have more features than the only model now available in the shops (e.g. high speed dubbing, many different recording settings, easy and smooth editing). I have an old manual and remote but the universal remote supplied is excellent. No manual but I presume you can download one. Very happy to still be able to buy these models.

Bought this to replace a 12 year old version which has stopped working. This allows me to record programmes from TV onto the hard drive and burn onto dvd if needed. All working well!

It was advertised as been out of it's original box not true remote was a replacement it should have had 300 recording hours on the hard drive only over a hundred hours could be found it continually goes into update mode disappointing next time I'll buy my dvd recorder from a bonafide high street retailer

Very good as expected. Everything is well designed except some minor weaknesses like the title naming of a timer recording.
