I was searching for a DAB alarm clock radio, not too techie, not too big, that had good sound quality, looked good and was affordable. Asking too much? Nope! The Ortus 2 has been very good so far (2 months), and is simple to set and use. I often listen at night with the sound down very low to not disturb the children and it is lovely and clear. Never used at high volume (it's an alarm clock radio after all) so no comment on its performance here although more than good enough to clean the bedrooms to!

OK so as usual no tone controls, but it's no too bassy. Only 3 preset buttons, for more than 3 presets you have to go into menu/fiddle/fiddle, bear in mind this is a clock radio, usually used when you're half asleep. The LCD digits are a bit small, and the symbols on the display ARE too small. LCD's are never as good as LED's on a clock radio, you can't view them very well at an angle and with it facing you in bed, they are too bright. Yes you can dim the display but then you can't see it in the daylight.

It's a great product. Sound level drops slowly at the end of sleep mode amd rises slowly on alarm. Lots of varying sound levels so you'll find the right one to go to sleep to. Also low level light ideal for not lighting up the room if you don't like light at night. However, the controls cam take a lot of getting used to. I wish there was a simpler way by adding a few buttons to it rather than having to press one button first before being able to use another button to alter settings

The lowest level of dimmer setting at night is still too bright. The use of charging my mobile on the usb port is great. I haven't set any alarms up yet.
