You need to drill the hole though with a 3mm carbide cutter and pull the stem through by the rubber, not the pin. If you pull any plug through by the pin it will just pull out.

Repair,clean unreachable surfaces.
Had problems with the indicator stalk in my car. Turning right the indicators would'nt come on and flash. This being a common fault on my particular model. Repairing involved dismantling the dashboard,removing the steering wheel and buying a £93 part. The indicator stalk is a "no user serviceable parts". Fault is caused by carboning up of electrical contacts. A good spray of the cleaner cured the fault,flushed the carbon out restoring contact. Perfect. Not very effective. I work with electronics a lot and this product is the worst I've ever used. You have to use lots of it and it leaves a slight residue. I had to make the three applications of it on scratchy faders on an EQ I was fixing, where with other products one would do. You get a lot of product for your money, but it is quickly outweighed by the amount of this product you need and it costs you time! Don't buy itNot very effective.
