This unit can control up to 18 electronic devices ranging from home automation devices and external speakers to gaming consoles and more. For each device, you can add up to 85 functions just on the physical buttons alone. The learning functionality also includes eight pages of six functions on the actual screen. This will give you complete control over your home. Even though there is a setup process involved, you will love getting to take control of all of your electronics. Command video, audio, and home automation technology without having to keep track of separate remote controls. Featuring a special support package that contains three main pages of information, the universal MX-450 is able to upgrade its software as time goes on. This means that it automatically stays abreast of new device codes. You do not have to keep upgrading your universal remote to keep up to date with new technology. If you want to control audio and video electronics and consoles that are located in other rooms, pair this universal remote control up with a URC RF Base unit. You can have access to your home theater, gaming console, and HDTV even when you are in another room. Even better, URC does offer an Archiver program that lets you back up your MX-450 remote's data. All you need is a USB cable, and you are good to go. It can run on either Narrow Bandwidth RF or IR, and it's very easy to program. It uses four AA batteries that are easy to replace.     An Excellent simple and easy Universal remote

    For those that have owned this type remote, it is so much better than the new ones that try to stuff too much and too many features and functions (and actually do less). I like the simplicity of this universal remote because it doesn't require any other attachments to my devices. Great product, too bad it is considered old and discontinued. Get'em while you can!

    Give it a 4

    The touch screen is way to sensitive. It changes channels, or may change activities when setting the remote down. Sometimes you have to touch the screen hard or several times for a selection, and other times it makes a selection by passing your finger over it. The design makes it more difficult to hold and make selection with one hand. Not as easy to use as my 950 design.

    Good Remote that works well with it's companion RF base station.

    Binary questions such as "Is it easy to program" require only a yes or no answer. I believe the remote is more difficult to program than the older MX-350. The MX-350 had a cloning feature, which the MX-450 lacks. IN my opinion, programming the MX-450 is moderately difficult.

    Great Design, Easy to Program

    Once you understand the menu levels and how to use them this remote is a snap to program. It has a nice design with good tactile feedback buttons. The best thing is you don't need a computer or separate software or an expensive technician to program it. You can customize almost every button to learn from your current equipment's original remotes. Very easy process in fact I think it's faster than the "search for codes process" because I have yet to see that process work 100% so you end up trying code after code to end up with only a portion of the buttons working. The learning process is 100% bullet proof and quick.

    Great remote

    I bought this remote because I already own one. This was to replace my current remote in case it stopped working. I didn't realize that the newer remotes are not software compatible with the older remote. I had to program the new one from scratch. Since I don't do this for a living it took a while. All good now and it works great. Better than the old one.
