      Great long-zoom

      After a year of pondering whether to buy this or the 200-400 I finally took the plunge last week. Many reviews will talk about slower AF but on Saturday I rattled off over 300 shots at a half a football match and never had a problem with AF speed or lag - it is quick enough for most uses. I appreciate many see this as a birding lens but my use is for local sports - I can’t wait for cricket to come back now I have this extra length. At a fraction of the price of the 200-400 this gives extra length at the cost of a stop or so. I have found the images sharp and good enough for newspaper reproduction even wide open at all focal lengths given a reasonable subject distance. The only downsides are: It is huge The zoom barrel turns a very long way taking a hand off and repositioning is necessary ...

      Quality & Cheap too !

      Great Nikon Lens, the 200-500mm with its fixed aperture is sharp & actually decent in low light, VR is amazing as can shoot hand held at full 500mm zoom & still be sharp. A Big Bargain too if bought from a trusted non EU seller like I did. Build quality is usual Nikon as in its as Sturdy as a rock. It's just over 2Kg so might be too heavy for some to hand hold for lengthy periods but that's to be expected. Great Great Zoom for under a grand in price & makes the Tamron + Sigma competition look like kids toys when comparing it to them. Pretty much a win win with no downsides that I can see TBH... A Highly Recommended bit of Glass if you need something with a long reach & demand quality then this is for you :)
