Theroux's Turn in the South
This is one of best travelogues Theroux has ever written, especially as it concerns an area of his own country with which he was fairly unfamiliar. He tours the blighted, post-industrial South on four separate trips, getting to know ordinary working people, chronicling their daily lives and hardsdhips, noting how some of them are doing their damnedest to make their hometowns recover from the worst recession most of them can remember.
