It works by comparing the route planned with thousands of other drivers’ times on the same route, taking into account times of day and even day of the week. Using this data the TomTom XL IQ Routes Europe GPS receiver then gives the user an estimated time of arrival. The TomTom XL IQ Routes car satellite navigation system also features TomTom’s Lane Guidance system which greatly improves driver confidence when crossing between motorways and major road junctions. The TomTom XL IQ Routes Europe GPS receiver will display both 2D and 3D maps. Having external dimensions of 118 mm (4.6 inches) wide by 80 mm (3.1 inches) high by 25 mm (1 inch) deep and weighing only 185 g (6.5 oz), the TomTom XL IQ Routes Europe GPS receiver can be unclipped and conveniently carried in a bag or purse.

Good economical navigation for a 2nd hand device
I bought this for a touring trip to France I was making these last 2 weeks. Item worked well vast majority of the time - it had 2016 maps but confused the right of way at some junctions which may have changed in last few years though generally directions and voice instructions were good. The touch screen was occasionally an issue not recognising keystrokes but mostly programming routes was easy. If you're used to Garmin products this might frustrate perhaps but for anybody used to TomTom devices it's a doddle.
