Our 1000 gal pool sits in that shade and some years never warmed up. Last year I installed 2 of these heaters with great results, the pool was comfortable after a day or two of sun. This year I added to more mats, and it is heating up much faster. PVC pipe hooks right up with the fittings.. Water coming out of the mats is 15 degrees warmer, pool heats up 10-12 degrees in one day. Flow is way down with our 600gpm Intex pump and filter, I may install a 2nd pump in series without a filter. But for now happy with the results, very cost effective way to heat a small pool.

I got the item for keeping the Jacuzzi warm in between usage circulating the water through it with a solar pump. I took a little adapting to fit it to the pump, but when I hooked it up, it did exactly what I wanted it to do for about 4 days. I came home one day and the Jacuzzi was almost empty. The seal had come loose where the water enters the maze. I would hope it would last a few years, not a few days. Seller does not want to accept a return.

It definitely absorbs sunlight. I first laid it out before hooking up the water and it got HOT! When water is being pumped through the mat, it curls up and twists the fittings around and restricts the water flow. If it's in the filter circuit, your skimmer will just barely work. Spend some time to get the hoses and fittings aligned for best flow. The worst part is that it doesn't use the same Intex connections that the pools and filters use. You need adapters (that come with it) to convert to hose fittings. The plastic hose clamps that come with the heater *almost* get tight enough to hold the hoses on to the fittings. Twice, I had hoses pop off while the pump was running. The clamps were tightened as much as they would allow. Finally, mine developed a hole in the bottom. I couldn't find a stone or anything but grass under it. It does kill the grass. If you still want one, shop around. There is a wide variety of prices for identical Intex heaters on ebay. One of my mats came with a leak on the membrane that spilled water. Additionally, I have the two connected in series, live in Trinidad (Caribbean) with a 7000 liter pool and it only raised the temperature by 1-2 degrees Celsius. The mats placement allows them to receive sunlight for 7 hours without shade. The flow rate while running water through the heater passages exclusively was soo poor that it rendered the system useless. Do not buy! I would have been better off building a PVC collector on my own...

Have 2 of these on my 10x18 above ground intex pool. Placed a 6x3 ft matte black metal plate underneath them 1/2 way. The metal plate gets hotter than snot and helps heat the mats. As soon as pump is turned on or shortly thereafter the mats start to cool cause of the water flowing through them, I think this help transfer some of the heat. I think would also work better if the outflow on my pool was towards the bottom. Heat rises.. so unles the water is agitated there is not much mixing going on and I think most of the warmer water is staying on top. If I had the space I would use 4.. maybe next year. I think this is a good idea as opposed to an electric heater but you need the room and may need to buy longer hoses depending on placement. I had to scalp the hoses for my vacuum.
