Prometheus was released in theatres in June 2012 and later on dvd and blu-ray in the fall of the same year. It centers around the discovery that the human race was created by aliens (referred to as engineers) who left clues behind on ancient Earth. Two scientists, Elizabeth Shaw played by Noomi Rapace and Charlie Holloway played by Logan Marshall Green, put the clues together and after getting funding from the Weyland Corporation travel to LV-223 in the science vessel Prometheus to find the engineers. Things naturally don't go well for the crew and scientists and we get treated to some classic Alien gore and action. Prometheus, directed by Sir Ridley Scott, is simply a visually stunning film. The special effects were amazing and the CGI was seamed perfectly with the actors. Unlike many other special effects driven movies, the CGI doesn't seem forced and the actors own the scenes, not the other way around. The musical score complements the movie perfectly and the acting, particularly Michael Fassbinder who plays the android David, was excellent. The movie also starts off well and ends well with some nice action scenes mixed in. With all of that being said, Prometheus has issues. When I first saw this in the theatres, knowing that this was a prequel of sorts, I kept wondering when Scott was going to connect the dots with his 1979 classic, Alien. When a bunch of questions were left unanswered at the film's conclusion, I left disappointed. When I saw the movie again on blu-ray however I certainly liked it more but still had questions about the plot. I also had a few issues with the casting. Guy Pearce's choice to play the supposedly ancient Peter Weyland was really odd. Pearce, an excellent actor who I've liked since LA Confidential, is simply miscast here and his makeup was terrible. Charlize Theron, one of the sexiest and most talented actresses in Hollywood, was all over the place playing Meredith Vickers. At one point she's the ice queen boss and the next she's sleeping with the ship's captain. There's a ton more script issues but suffice it to say that if you keep getting distracted by the android poisoning crew members for no apparent reason etc then you're probaly not enjoying the film as much as you could. As a fan of the Alien franchise I certainly wanted to love this movie and give it five stars, but due to the plot issues I can't. It's a really good stand alone film however and as stated earlier has some of the best special effects I've ever seen. Prometheus also has some great action scenes, excellent acting, and the blu-ray extras are pretty sharp. This is an excellent set for the money, especially here on E-Bay, so I would certainly recommend it for any sci-fi fan's collection.Read full review
Saw the movie in the theater and was somewhat disappointed. I bought it to add to my 3D collection and somehow I liked it much better at home! Maybe I was overhyped the first time. Anyway, it's a good addition to the Alien legacy and the 3D bluray is really done well. The space & outdoor scenes are superbly done, the acting fine, the story decent and the indoor set pieces are done with Scott's unwavering attention to detail. On the flip side, some of the characters are almost caricatures of themselves and a few scenes are so improbable they become nearly ridiculous. But that's being a bit harsh- most sci-fi horror movies have a few of those. I'd put this a good #4 in the Alien saga- Aliens being one of the best of this genre ever, the classic Alien at #2 and a good Alien Resurrection just maybe a hair ahead of Prometheus at #3, storywise. Alien 3 doesn't do a thing for me- I'll probably toss it and put Prometheus into my box set instead. Watch it on a big screen and enjoy the eye candy!Read full review

What's Next?? After seeing this fabulously done movie, I, like Noomi's character, want to know WHY they wanted to destroy the human race...that THEY created in their image. We need an update. Was David able to guide her to the creators? SRS needs to revisit this and write the follow-up.
