I have been using a traditional sharpening stone for over fifty years. These were made of black stuff, probably carborundum. This stone is equally good. With the old stone I used a light oil as lubricant. With this one I thought that I would try cooking oil. It works just great. You will find that the stone soaks a lot up, at first, but it sharpens perfectly.

The only good thing about this product is the size.
The first time i used it just went to powder and crumbled as I sharpened a knife. It dropped powder pieces everywhere and bits of stone on my floor, which isn't very good when I have young children running around. I think it was a Complete waste of money and it went straight in the bin.

Finally my knives are sharp
The stone works. I wet the stone and then ran the knife over the rough side until I could see a good edge appear (don't forget to try and grind each side equally to keep the edge in the middle of the knife). I then worked on the softer side of the stone to try and perfect the edge. Before I started the knife was bouncing off tomatoes and onions but after about 3 minutes of sharpening it cut straight through. Much better than buying new knives.The stone works. Blade Sharpening Stone
