An essential spare to keep.
This is the Siamp inlet valve you need to keep in your spares box. You get the Siamp simplicity and quality plus two extra features. It ihas a simple to use height adjustment so can replace just about any other inlet valve and the brass tail allows you to tighten up that bottom nut without the fear you are going to strip the treads. If you've got a cistern with uneven ceramics round the inlet hole this is the valve to use.This is the Siamp inlet valve you need to keep in your spares box. Ok but………
This was a replacement so I had little choice but to use the same valve. This valve is often used in concealed cisterns inside furniture. The valve is fine in itself but it’s operation is dependent upon the diaphragm washer remaining free of the smallest quantity of hard water scale deposits, grit etc. consequently the washers fail fairly frequently, are expensive and usually in a difficult place to get to! This was a replacement so I had little choice but to use the same valve. This valve is often used in concealed cisterns inside furniture. The valve is fine in itself but it’s operation is dependent upon the diaphragm washer remaining free of the smallest quantity of hard water scale deposits, grit etc. consequently the washers fail fairly frequently, are expensive and usually in a difficult place to get to!

Easy to fit in awkward cisterns
Bought as a direct replacement, so I knew it would fit in the cistern without snagging on anything. Easy to install, comes with new washer, brass tail means you can tighten without risk of cross threading, easy to adjust water level. The only downside is : Replacement diaphragm washers are not stocked by all DIY shops, so I bought a spare at the same time. Says its guaranteed for 10 years, my diaphragm washer failed after 5 years (downstairs cloakroom), easy to fit a new one so long as there is a stopcock near by.Bought as a direct replacement, so I knew it would fit in the cistern without snagging on anything. A neat, effective valve with somewhat sketchy instructions
My first experience with this type of valve. It's certainly more compact than the ball float arrangement it replaces, it's easy to set the desired fill level and it shuts off with reassuring precision. I found it fairly easy to fit, although the instructions could have been a little more explicit (while I understand the economy of avoiding words in multilingual literature, the instructions do rely on the user correctly interpreting e.g. the concept of opposing arrows - and knowing where to position the washers). Also, as I discovered, it's very important to set the unit's correct height before starting to install the valve, because it's nigh on impossible to do once the valve is in situ. However, now I know what I'm doing, I'll find it dead easy to update the valves in my other WC's.My first experience with this type of valve. Great quality at great price
Got fed up trying to stop the plastic thread on the old unit from leaking. This has a nice solid brass shank for minimal extra cost. Easy to fit and adjust. Nice and quiet and allowed me to bin the clunky old ball valve too. Result !
