Bought myself a new camera just before Christmas (a slightly better model tha the one i had had for quite a few years. I needed to buy extras for the new camera – flash gun, SD card, etc – first thing that came along was a long focus digital lens compatible with my new camera. These lenses can be very, very expensive so you can imagine how delighted I was when I won it for quite a decent price; it wasn't cheap but was excellent value for money. High quality Konica Minolta glass. Compatible with all Sony alpha DSLRs.
This small and well made lens is a little gem, the one I own was made in Japan and shows the high quality build and glass you would expect from Konica Minolta. Can produce crisp, sharp images when used with care. Works smoothly on auto-focus and very easy to focus on the manual setting. Can be found with various body styling and although mostly black can also be found in silver. Has a 49mm filter ring and these filters can be picked up for a few pounds here on ebay. Should come with lens hood and front and rear lens caps. As good as if not better than the newer Sony Alpha lenses that came later after Sony had taken over the Minolta dynasty some years back. The best news is that this lens will fit and work on all Sony Alpha digital SLRs and although a 70-210mm when used on older ... Just about half the size and weight of the Minolta/Sony alpha 70-300mm lenses and great for those of us who would prefer to use a lighter, smaller lens. Often compared to the so called Minolta "Beer Can" lenses that are heavier and longer but in truth you would be hard pressed to notice any difference in the quality of the final images. This lens can be switched between auto-focus and manual focus at the flick of a switch on the side of the lens just as in newer Sony Alpha lenses. Pros: Small, lightweight, well built, inexpensive, high quality Minolta glass, smooth focusing on auto or manual setting, works fully on all Sony Alpha DSLRs, becomes a 105-315mm when used on Sony Alpha DSLRs except full frame models. Cons: Very few if any to be honest. Said by some photographers to be soft when used at anything under F/4-F/6 but I have yet to see any evidence of this myself.
