    does what I need

    I use this in my fiber crafts. I needed a flat sole plate iron, aka dry iron, that is, one with no holes in the sole plate, because I use it for such crafts as pressing wool shapes, iron-on products, and doing the initial ironing of the silk scarves that I hand dye (which can come out with spots if there are holes in the iron.) I bought this to replace my previous flat sole plate iron which broke. This does everything I need it to do, and I can even use it in a wet application by spraying water with a spray bottle if I want to.

    Lightweight but doesn't slide smoothly over fabric

    The iron has an aluminum sole plate. This heats well, but does not slide smoothly over fabric. The iron is very light weight, so easy on the hand, but it begs the question of why the iron is called heavyweight. The temperature settings are clear and cover a range of fabrics. The cord is a good length (8 ft?). Knowing how the sole plate functioned would have changed my purchase choice.

    Black & Decker Model F54 Heavyweight Iron - NO HOLES

    Love this iron for quilting, especially appliqué. It has no holes so it doesn't leave little indentations on fusible appliqué, nor will it accidentally leak on project! The heavy weight of this hot little iron is just what is needed for quick and accurate fusing. Don't ever change this design!

    Purchased this iron for appliqué work as a dry iron (one without steam and the associated vents on the sole plate) works best. It has temperature settings which are ideal for this purpose. It heats up quickly. Black & Decker makes great irons. I’m pleased with both my B&D steam and dry irons.
