About this product

Product Information

Former video store clerk Quentin Tarantino's directorial debut, RESERVOIR DOGS, is a brutally funny, supercharged introduction to his supremely distinct cinematic vision, which was later to become one of the most mimicked styles of the 1990s. Mastermind Joe Cabot (Lawrence Tierney) assembles a crew of top-notch criminals to pull off a jewelry store heist. As the film opens it becomes immediately clear that the plan backfired, forcing the survivors, who have gathered at an abandoned warehouse, to figure out if one of them is, in fact, a police informer. The crew--Mr. White (Harvey Keitel), an aged veteran; Mr. Orange (Tim Roth), a wounded newcomer; Mr. Blonde (Michael Madsen), a psychopathic parolee; Mr. Pink (Steve Buscemi), a bickering weasel; and Nice Guy Eddie (Chris Penn), Joe's son--begin to unravel as the pressure becomes too much for them to handle. When Joe arrives, the truth becomes clear in a vicious Mexican standoff.Tarantino takes liberally from Hong Kong action flicks, most notably Ringo Lam's CITY ON FIRE, but his ultra-hip ‘70s soundtrack and hysterical pop culture dialogue make the film seem wholly original and new. Taking a cue from the French New Wave--most notably Jean-Luc Godard--RESERVOIR DOGS remains one of the decade's most influential motion pictures.

  • A Diamond heist gone bad ! Outstanding debut film!

Tarantino's debut movie is cult viewing. The film benefits from a quality cast of actors with Harvey Keitel & Steve Buscemi being particularly impressive as Mr White & Mr Pink. The script is witty and engaging throughout. I'd never previously seen such a seemingly disjointed movie come together so perfectly as in Reservoir Dogs. I especially enjoyed the way the resevoir dogs turn on each other in order to try and uncover who the "rat" is after their failed diamond heist. Furthermore, the use of colour code names and cool suits & shades is another inspired choice by Tarantino. The film is both violent, coarse and darkly humourous - a perfect mix. The movie soundtrack is also particularly impressive. The highlight would have to be Mr Blonde dancing to the ditty of "Stuck in the middle with ...

  • The film that launched the career of a master filmmaker

"Reservoir Dogs" is Quentin Tarantino's first official film (he'd been making student films & shorts for a while before it was released). It was screened at the 1992 Sundance Film Festival to amazing critical acclaim, and it's an undeniable fact that it launched Tarantino's brilliant career in filmmaking. Harvey Keitel, otherwise known as Mr. White, may be largely attributed for the making of this movie - he read Tarantino's screenplay, through Lawrence Bender (producer), and absolutely loved it. That marks the birth of "Reservoir Dogs." Nothing can be said about this spectacular film that hasn't been said already. The ensemble cast is magnificent, with Keitel, Michael Madsen, and Steve Buscemi giving especially remarkable performances. Tarantino as the hilarious Mr. Brown is an absolute ...

  • Heist, Without the Heist

Quentin's debut is marvelous in its legend and indie legacy. The shots, homages, and overall style are what make the film a classic. But how about the actual story itself? The out of chronological order technique used (eh, hm Tarantino trademark) as well as the fact that the actual robbery is never shown gives a worn out genre a pump of steroids. The movie is drenched in cult film, comic, and music references (eh, hm another Tarantino trademark) that give the film a light-hearted feel while contrasting with the graphic story. Its a truly brilliant debut. Short and sweet.

  • Reservoir Dogs is a great movie and in my top ten!

Reservoir Dogs is a great film with an excellent cast, focused almost entirely on dialogue alone. You somehow feel like you just watched an action movie, but you don't actually see the action. It is either implied or discussed. Even the most graphic scene of the movie is not shown, however, most viewers think they saw it (if you've seen this film, you not only know what scene I'm referring to, but you also now have the song in your head). I highly recommend this film to viewers who want an interesting story, and don't mind a little blood and profanity.

  • Great actors, but no purpose

This movie is considered a "classic" by many, I realize, and I may be in the minority for not really liking it. Reservoir Dogs features some great actors & performances, but the overall point of the movie was lost in action. Wait, there really wasn't much action, mostly a bunch of standing/ sitting around talking. I haven't really cared for many Tarrantino movies I guess. If I want to watch meaningless death, I'll just turn on the nightly news. This is one that'll go right back here for sale again. Have a nice day :-)
